ABOUT ELLIOTT JOHNSTON AO QC - “THE RED SILK”

The Hon. Elliott Johnston AO QC (26 February 1918 - 25 August 2011) served as a judge of the Supreme Court of South Australia from 1983 to 1988.  He was later appointed Commissioner for the National Royal Commission into Aboriginal Deaths in Custody.

One of Adelaide’s most distinguished legal figures, Elliott Johnston AO QC was known for his legal expertise, compassion, and fearless pursuit of justice for the underdog.

His lasting and significant contribution to the legal profession is something that all members of Elliott Johnston Chambers seek to honour.

ABOUT ELLIOTT JOHNSTON CHAMBERS

Elliott Johnston Chambers was founded in 2004 by prominent human rights advocate Nick Niarchos AM and Paul Rofe QC, the former Director of Public Prosecutions (SA).

When Nick Niarchos AM approached Elliott Jonnston AO QC requesting permission to use his name, he kindly agreed, but expressed surprise saying he thought “you’d need to be well and truly gone before they’d name a chambers after you”.

Elliott Johnston Chambers was originally located on Carrington Street, before moving to the current premises at 356A King William Street, Adelaide in 2005.
